Creative Native

Yesterday was National Aboriginal Day, the day we recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada.

I woke up early and like a proud Métis ran out to work. I hoped that after my 8 hour day there would still be events going on and I wouldn’t be too tired to participate.

In the late afternoon I dropped by one of the open air pow wows, just in time for the last few songs.  Meandering around, I watched the competitive dancing and admired the different jewelry, art and clothing being sold.
I was having a lazy blissful time but a rain storm pushed me to head home.

My intention for the evening was to make bannock but sleep got in the way of that plan too.

So, to honour yesterday and the fact that I'm Aboriginal everyday I'm posting some of my indigenous inspired art.

Mixed-media collage. Created in 2010.

Small painting part of a larger thematic collage. Created in  2010.
